Pat Perez maintains lead at Bob Hope
BY Bruce Young | US PGA Tour | 2009 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic | Round Three | 24 Jan 2009
Pat Perez’s amazing run at the Bob Hope continued today when he added a third round of 67 and at 25 under he leads by two over Steve Stricker.
Playing at the slightly more difficult Silver Rock layout on day three, Perez was not quite able to match his brilliance of the opening two days but it was a till a solid round as he maintained the lead he established in Wednesday’s opening round.
Stricker today matched Perez’s opening round of 61 at the Palmer Private course at PGA West and moved from 18th to 2nd and is hot on the heels of the leader as the event enters the fourth round tomorrow.
The cut will be made at the completion of 72 holes with those making it through returning to the host course, the Palmer Private, on Sunday.
Mathew Goggin, in his first tournament of 2009, continued where he left off late last season in Australia, his brilliant round of 62 at Bermuda Dunes today moving him from 62nd to 16th and he leads the Australasian challenge.
Peter Lonard was rolling along nicely at Bermuda Dunes reaching 18 under with three to play but two late bogies were very costly. He is at 16 under and in 28th position.
John Senden played late in the day at the Nicklaus Private course and added a round of 65 to be at 14 under but in 43rd position, Steve Elkington had a horror day at Silber Rock with a round of 76 to be 70th, New Zealand’s Tim Wilkinson is 91st, Greg Chalmers and Nathan Green 101st, Jarrod Lyle 109th and James Nitties 112th.
