Samuel Shin from New Zealand and Korean national Mi-Sun Cho who lives in Kew, Victoria, have shown their golfing excellence in taking the first prizes at the second annual MasterCard Junior Masters golf tournament at the Vines Resort in Perth. The two rising stars triumphed over a field of 106 top class junior golfers to win a golden opportunity to compete with their golfing heroes in professional tournaments later this year.

Samuel will compete in the MasterCard Masters golf tournament to take place at the Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne from 8 – 12 December 2005, while Mi-Sun will play in the ANZ Ladies Open at the Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

Samuel achieved a hard fought win, finishing even par with a slim one shot lead over his fiercest contender, Jordan Sherratt from South Australia.

In an equally nail-biting finish, last year’s champion Mi-Sun, edged out her closest competitors Sarah Oh and Kate Thomas, both from New South Wales, to re-claim her title for the second year in a row. Mi-Sun ended the tournament with a score of one under, with a mere one shot lead over Sarah and a two shot lead over Kate.

Both Samuel and Mi-Sun showed brilliance and determination on a tough course, to overcome some of the best young golfers from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines and South Africa.

Natalie Lockwood, Vice President, Marketing, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA), MasterCard International said: “MasterCard would like to congratulate Samuel and Mi-Sun on their outstanding win at the MasterCard Junior Masters. We are delighted to offer them the priceless experience of being able to play in a professional tournament during the upcoming summer of golf. We will be watching their promising careers unfold with great interest”.

MasterCard Junior Masters golf tournament Chairman Wayne Smith said: “Samuel and Mi-Sun have added great excitement to this year’s competition. I have no doubt that their talent and commitment to the game will take them very far”.

Ben Pisani, last year’s male winner of the MasterCard Junior Masters experienced first-hand the opportunities that the tournament can provide. He said: “Winning the Junior Masters title gave me the belief that I can truly become a professional golfer one day. It was fantastic to play with and meet my heroes at the MasterCard Masters including Adam Scott who gave me some great tips on getting ahead with my golfing career”.

The recent MasterCard Junior Masters golf tournament returned to the Vines Resort, Perth, following the success of the inaugural event last year.
