Heat causes teetimes delay at Vic PGA
Australasian PGA Tour | 2009 Victorian PGA Championship | Round Three | 06 Feb 2009
Due to the extreme temperatures expected in Melbourne tomorrow, Saturday February 7, the PGA of Australia has announced that tee times for round three at the Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship have been revised and that play will begin two hours earlier. The revised two tee start will commence at 7:30am with play expected to conclude at approximately 2pm.
“The factors influencing this decision include the health and welfare of volunteers, scorers, and players and the potential damage to the golf course,” said Andrew Langford-Jones, Director of Tournaments, Tour Division, PGA of Australia.
“The extreme temperatures in Victoria last week have already left many of the courses in a vulnerable state and it would be negligent of us not to consider the long term effects.”
Near galeforce winds and a top of 43 degrees has been predicted for Melbourne tomorrow, with a top of 46C in the state.
The 2009 Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship is being played from Thursday February 5 to Sunday February 8 at Sanctuary Lakes Resort, Greg Norman Drive, Sanctuary Lakes. Entry is free.
