Presnell, O'Malley battle at Moonah

BY Anthony Powter | Australasian PGA Tour | 2009 Moonah Classic | Round Four | 01 Mar 2009

Alistair Presnell and Peter O’Malley are the early movers during the final round of the Moonah Classic in Victoria, Australia.

Presnell moved quickly to be three-under through the opening eight holes, including opening birdies on the first and second. O’Malley, twice winner on the Nationwide with the 2002 Holden Clearwater Classic and the 2005 ING New Zealand PGA Championship, opened with three birdies on the front nine to claim a one shot lead from Presnell at the turn.

Overnight leader, Miguel Angel Carballo, bogeyed the first and fourth holes to move back to tied third, whilst Richie Gallichan is a two over after six, with bogeys on the fifth and sixth.

O’Malley throughout his career has focused on the European Tour and claims three Tour wins there. Considered an extremely straight driver of the ball, the player known simply as “POM”, is taming one of Australia’s toughest layouts at Moonah.

In his thirteen career starts on the Nationwide Tour, O’Malley has being in the money on ten occasions and posted six top-ten finishes.

New Zealand’s, Phil Tataurangi, currently has the day’s best low round with a four-under-par, 68.
