Michael Foster leads Keperra Bowl
IN: News | Queensland Mens | Keperra Bowl (2005) | Round One | 10 May 2005
West Australian Michael Foster has fired a bogey-free round of 65 to lead a host of players by one stroke following the first round of the Keperra Bowl.
Foster, from the Hartfield GC, conceded that he left some shots on the course, with pars at the reachable par 5's - the 5th, 9th and 11th. A WA State Colts Team representative last year, Foster is presently in a vein of good form, having been a semi-finalist in the WA State Amateur Championship earlier this month.
Tied for second place after the first round is Rika Batibasaga, Ben Pisani (both Indooroopilly), Justin Maker (Virginia), and Kiwi Eisenhower representative Riki Kauika (Manor Park).
On a day of ideal scoring conditions, 47 of the field of 138 broke par.
South Australian Louis Fuller - an Australian Junior Representative this year, had the rare distinction of having 3 eagles in his round today. Fuller (aged 17) eagled the 1st, 5th and 11th holes - all par 5's.
Star cricketers James Hopes (Australian One-Day International All-Rounder) Damien McKenzie (Queensland Bulls fast bowler) returned respectable rounds of 76 and 77 respectively. Perhaps predictably (considering neither had played in a golf tournament of this nature before), both Hopes and McKenzie got off to slow starts. Hopes was 5 over par for the first 6 holes, and finished 1 under for his final 12 holes, whilst McKenzie parred the back nine.
