Foster extends Keperra Bowl lead
IN: News | Queensland Mens | Keperra Bowl (2005) | Round Three | 12 May 2005
Western Australian Michael Foster has further extended his lead in the Keperra Bowl, a selection trial event for the Australian National Amateur Squad.
Foster, who is not a member of the Squad, has lead from the start of the tournament, and extended his lead after each round. A one stroke lead extended to two after round two, and three after today's third round.
Play was disrupted before it even began this morning, in what was a far cry from the idyllic conditions that prevailed on the first two days. Heavy rain this morning left the course unplayable, and the 7:00 am group eventually teed off at 8:00 am. A further delay from 10:15 to 11:15 resulted in a longer than anticipated day for the 90 competitors.
The decision of the Championship Committee to amend the proposed cut-line and draw arrangements was vindicated, as the revised arrangements allowed the round to be completed despite losing two hours of play.
Australian representative Marc Leishman is in second place, after rounds of 68, 64, 70. Peter Cooke (SA), another West Australian in Brenton Haines, and Kiwi Eisenhower representative Riki Kauika are tied for third.
The 2005 Keperra Bowl concludes tomorrow morning, with players hitting off between 7:30 and 9:00 am.
