Beckmann 1-up in tight Amateur battle

The Australian Men’s Amateur final remains a tight battle between Daniel Beckmann and Scott Arnold.

After the opening thirteen holes at Royal Queensland, Beckmann is 1-up.

Beckmann’s last major amateur victory was two years ago at the 2007 Federal Amateur. All week he’s remarked that he’s due for a win and coming into today’s final, Beckmann’s game has been solid both during the Australian Stroke Championship and in the match play.

Arnold has looked in total control with his game during this championship and Australia’s top ranked world amateur has remarked how much he likes the Royal Queensland layout. Arnold looked comfortable during this morning’s opening holes, as both he and Beckmann opened with birdies on the first hole.

Beckmann managed to secure the first win with a birdie on the second to move to 1 up after two. A resulting birdie by Arnold on the 3rd had the final back to all square, with Arnold then making another birdie on the 4th to move to 1-up.

On the 9th, Beckmann won the hole with a birdie to have the final all square after the first nine holes.

Both players then went all-square until the 13th hole where Beckmann went 1-up with a par at the 160m par 3.
