Victorian Marc Leishman wins Keperra Bowl

IN: News | Queensland Mens | Keperra Bowl (2005) | Wrap | 13 May 2005

Victorian Australian representative Marc Leishman has overtaken the overnight leader - Western Australian Michael Foster today, to take out the Keperra Bowl by two strokes.

Foster lead the tournament at the conclusion of the first three day's play. Back-to-back 65's in the first two rounds saw him leading by one and two rounds respectively. A bogey, double bogey start in the third round was only a minor set-back, as he went on to record a 69, and extend his lead to three strokes.

A poor back nine today, which saw him take double-bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes, opened the door for Leishman to capitalise, and win a second National Selection Trial for the year, after taking out the prestigious Lake Macquarie Amateur Championship in January.

For Foster, the runner-up placing should help his cause at the selection table, as he attempts to force his way into the Western Australian Team for the Interstate Series, which will be played on home soil this September.

Leishman returns home to Victoria this evening to re-pack his bags for Japan, where he, along with Andrew Tampion, Mitchell Brown, Won Joon Lee, Andrew Dodt and Michael Sim will represent Australia in the Four Nations Cup.

He then heads to the UK and US, where he will compete in a number of the world's most prestigious amateur tournaments.

In the Invitational Two-Man Teams event, Victoria's team of Leishman and Andrew Tampion, who had the day's best round of 65, ran away to win by nine strokes from the South Australian team of David Lutterus and Peter Cooke.
