Australian Craig Parry is one of three 36 hole leaders at the Token Homemate Cup event in Nagoya after a second round of 66 saw him move from his overnight 7th to share the lead with Japan’s Tadahiro Takayama and Michio Matsumara.
“I played well today.” said Parry after his round. “I did not play all that well yesterday and I still have a long way to go but at least it is an opportunity.”
Parry has been back playing in Japan for the past three years after a decision to quit the US PGA Tour was made in late 2006. At that point he had one remaining year of full playing rights on the Japan Golf Tour as a result of his ten year exemption for winning the 1997 Japan Golf Open. He also still had exemption status in the US then but he was keen to spend more time back in Sydney and playing in Japan offered him that option.
Parry, a two time winner on the Japan Golf Tour, made a fast start to his round today with birdies on three of his first five holes, reaching the turn in 32.
Brendan Jones is the next best of the Australians in a share of 6th place after a disappointing round of 72 to follow his opening 66. “I actually played a little better from tee to green than yesterday but missed five putts from under five feet,” said Jones.
Steve Conran picked up two late birdies to finish at 3 under and in a share of 10th while Queensland’s Wayne Perske was the only other Australian to make the cut.
