Korea’s Choi Ho Sung, one of 17 Korean golfers in this week’s field at the Volvo China Open, has opened up a two shot lead at the halfway mark of the event being played in Beijing.

21-year-old Choi played in the afternoon group on day two and after an early bogey put together a very impressive stretch of golf through the middle of his round with six birdies in ten holes in that stretch. He leads over Chapchai Nirat and previous winner Markus Brier while Gonzalo Federez Castano and Paul McGinley are one shot further back.

Choi’s round of 68 was the second best of the day after the 67 of Paul McGinley’s.

The Australasian challenge is headed by David McKenzie, who recovered from an early double bogey and an outward nine of 39 to finish with 74 and at 2 under he is within four of the lead and is in a share of 6th position.

Scott Strange is at 1 under, Aaron Townsend at even par, Brad Kennedy and Craig Scott 1 over, Kurt Barnes, Peter O’Malley, Ashley Hall are at 2 over, David Gleeson, Marcus Fraser and Matthew Millar are at 3 over, with Mark Brown Chris Gaunt and Michael Long completing the 15 Australasians who made the cut.
