Sim at it again on Nationwide Tour

Michael Sim produced a stunning third round of 62 to grab a three shot lead heading into the final round of the Nationwide Tour’s BMW Charity Pro Am event on the border of North and South Carolina.

Sim, who already enjoys a massive lead on the 2009 Nationwide Tour money list, was facing the possibility of a sub 60 round on the par 71 layout at the Thornblade Club when he moved to 9 under for the day through 14 holes of his round. A bogey at the 15th however slowed the momentum but a final hole birdie saw him finish with 62 and at 20 under for the tournament he has the edge over American Blake Adams and Argentina’s Fabian Gomez.

In six Nationwide Tour starts this season Sim has already recorded a win, a playoff loss, a third and a fourth place finish and a win this week would take him within one victory of automatic and immediate graduation to the PGA Tour via the Battle field Promotion category.

This week’s event is played over three courses in a pro am format but tomorrow’s final round will be played at the host club, The Thornblade Club, which happens to be the course on which Sim produced his brilliance today.

David McKenzie and Scott Gardiner are the next best of the Australians in 29th position, while Stuart Deane, Andrew Buckle and Cameron Percy were the only others to make the 54 hole cut.
