BY Bruce Young | Special Events Tour | 2009 British Open International Final Qualifying - USA | Preview | 25 May 2009

The USA’s version International Final Qualifying for this year’s Open Championship at Turnberry will be played at the Gleneagles Golf Club in Plano near Dallas tomorrow with sixteen Australasians attempting to secure a start.

Mathew Goggin, Rod Pampling, Nick O’Hern, John Senden, Danny Lee, Ewan Porter, Matthew Jones, Greg Chalmers, Mark Hensby, Nathan Green, Steve Elkington, Stephen Leaney, Tim Wilkinson, Kane Webber and Steve Alker are all entered.

Danny Lee did have a start at Turnberry prior to his decision to turn professional shortly after the Masters but by quitting the amateur ranks he relinquished the right to play at Turnberry he earned courtesy of his US Amateur Championship victory. Lee finished an impressive 13th at last week’s Byron Nelson Classic.

The IFQ has been scheduled between the HP Byron Nelson Championship and this week’s PGA Tour stop at the Colonial Country Club, which is only a short distance away.
