Jones leads Mitsubishi Diamond in Japan

BY Bruce Young | Japan Tour | 2009 Mitsubishi Diamond Cup Golf | Round Three | 30 May 2009

A magnificent third round of 5 under par 67 has established a two shot lead for Canberra’s Brendan Jones at the Mitsubishi Diamond Cup event at the Oarai Golf Club in Ibaraki Prefecture.

Jones made a lightning move on day three and at one stage had moved to seven under par through 14 holes of his round. Two late bogeys cost him a significant lead heading into tomorrow’s final round in the ¥150 million ($A1,950,000) event but he still enjoys a two shot break over Takashi Kanemoto, veteran Tommy Nakajima and second round leader, Chawalit Plaphol.

On the tough and demanding layout Jones is the only player under par through 54 holes.

Steve Conran is the next best placed Australasian but he is some nine shots behind Jones.
