LPGA returns for State Farm Classic

BY Bruce Young | LPGA Tour | 2009 State Farm Classic | Preview | 02 Jun 2009

The LPGA Tour returns to action this week when the LPGA State Farm Classic is played at the Panther Creek Country Club just outside of Springfield, Illinois.

The Hale Irwin designed layout became the venue for this event in 2007 and Sherri Steinhauer and Ji Young Oh have been the two winners of the event at the new venue.

Oh won her first career title with her playoff victory over Yani Tseng last year. Both players involved in that playoff have won in recent weeks on the LPGA Tour, Oh winning the second last event in New Jersey while Tseng won two weeks ago at the Corning Classic.

The field will not include the world number one Lorena Ochoa but the next nine highest ranked players in the Rolex World rankings, Yani Tseng, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Ji Yai Shin, Suzann Pettersen, Angela Stanford, Helen Alfredsson, Karrie Webb and in Kyung Kim will tee it up on Thursday.

Australia will be represented by Webb, Katherine Hull, Rachel Hetherington, Wendy Dolan, Michelle Ellis, Lindsey Wright, Sarah Jane Smith, Sarah Kemp and Anna Rawson.
