Jim Furyk and Jonathan Byrd lead the Memorial Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, both players securing a birdie at their last hole to break clear of a Mike Weir and Mark Wilson.
Furyk has not won on the PGA Tour since the Canadian Open in 2007 but he has been putting himself in position on a regular basis of late and as a previous winner and runner up at Muirfield Village, he appears a good chance too repeat that effort this week.
Byrd on the other hand has a shocking record here with this only the second cut he has made in seven starts. Byrd has not won since the John Deere Championship in July 2007.
Although his form has been mixed in recent weeks there have been enough good signs to suggest Byrd too could go on with it this week. He finished 5th at the Quail Hollow Championship a month ago.
Weir birdied three of his last five holes to get within one while Wilson struggled through the back nine in two over after what had been a great start when making the turn in four under 32.
Tiger Woods slipped with a second round of 74 and the three time winner of this event has a big but certainly not impossible task to chase down those ahead over the closing 36 holes.
Jason Day and Rod Pampling lead the Australian challenge at 4 under and within three of the leaders. Pampling led this event by three heading into the final round in 2007 before finishing 3rd while Day continued his impressive recent form by recovering from an outward nine of 38 to finish with 73.
John Senden is at 1 over, Geoff Ogilvy, Nick O’Hern, Stuart Appleby and Mathew Goggin are at 2 over while Marc Leishman and Robert Allenby just crept inside the cutline at 4 over.
