The Japan PGA Championship, being played in the northern island of Hokkaido, completed its first round on Friday after Thursday’s opening round on Thursday had been washed out.

The joint leaders after round one are Yuta Ikeda and Norio Shinozaki and Shintaro Doumoto who at 5 under lead by one over a group of five at 4 under with Brendan Jones and Eddie Lee heading the Australasian brigade at 3 under 67.

Scott Laycock in his first Japan Golf Tour event in 2009 recorded a one under par 69, Steve Conran and Paul Sheehan at even par, Wayne Perske at 3 over, Craig Parry and David Smail at 6 over.

Smail has since withdrawn from the event because of the uncertainty of the schedule over the next two days and the possible clash with his pressing engagement at Bethpage next week.
