Krywulycz moves at Sunnehanna

Mitch Krywulycz has fired a second round 71 to move fourteen places up the leaderboard at the Sunnehanna Amateur in in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and to be with Michael Smyth, as the best of the Australians in a tie for 34th position.
Krywulycz, who’s currently completing collegiate studies at Augusta State, built upon his opening round of 73 to be currently at 3-over-par for the tournament, fifteen strokes behind the second round leader, Kevin Foley.
Foley fired a tournament equalling low 9-under-par, 61, during the first round and carded a second round 2-under-par, 68, to have a six stroke margin over NEC Master of the Amateurs Champion, Mark Anderson, who is in a tie for second position at 5-under with Brendan Gielow and Brian Harmon.
Michael Smyth, the best Australian after opening with round of 1-over-par to be in a tie for 21st position, slipped back the leaderboard with a second round 3-over-par, 73, to be at 4-over for the tournament and in a tie with Krywulycz.
Symth’s round was a mix affair with two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey six on the 373 metre par 4, 18th. Krywulycz, in contrast played solidly with four birdies through five holes on the back nine, his momentum destroyed with a costly triple bogey on the 427 metre par 4, 12th.
Ray Beaufils is a shot behind Smyth and Krywulycz at 5-over-par, following rounds of 72-73. Jin Jeong finds himself well down in the field after posting scores of 75-72, to be in a tie for 58th position.
With fifteen strokes from the current leader, the Australians have their work cut out for them at Sunnehanna to make any serious challenge for a top order placing.
Australians have experienced previous success at tournament. Michael Sim, who’s currently on two wins this season on the Nationwide Tour and on the verge of obtaining a “battlefield promotion” to the PGA Tour, claimed the title at Sunnehanna in 2005.
