Shinobu Moromizato has defeated Chinese golfer Li Ying Ye in a playoff to win the Japan Ladies Golf Tour’s Suntory Ladies Open. It was Moromizato’s second win of the season and her fourth JLPGA victory and moves the 22 year old to second position on the 2009 Japan Golf Tour money list behind Sakura Yokomine.

Moromizato started the final round one shot behind Maiko Wakabayashi but took control with two early birdies before holding off a late challenge from Ye. Ye is in her first JLPGA season and this week’s performance follows a 6th place finish at her last start.

The leading Australian in the field was Tamie Durdin who recovered from a slow start to the week to finish in 6th place finish, continuing her breakthrough season in Japan. Durdin won a few weeks ago in Japan and is now in 11th position on the 2009 money list, having also finished runner up to Katherine Hull at the ANZ Ladies Masters earlier this year.

Canberra’s Nikki Campbell shared the lead at various stages early in the tournament but eventually finished 17th while the only other Australian in the field, Victoria’s Alison Whitaker, did not make the cut.
