Coles shares lead in Arkansas

BY Bruce Young | Nationwide Tour | 2009 Fort Smith Classic | Round Two | 20 Jun 2009

Three players are tied for the lead at the Nationwide Tour’s Fort Smith Classic in Arkansas, Gavin Coles, Jason Enloe and Chris Tidland all at 11 under and ahead by one over Kris Blanks and Brenden Pappas.

A bogey at the final hole cost Coles the halfway lead but he has created a great opportunity to go one better than when runner up to Todd Fischer in this event in 2002.

Coles has not had a good year to date, a 7th place finish at the New Zealand PGA Championship at Clearwater (the home of one of Coles’ Nationwide Tour victories) his best.

After an opening round of 63 had him one behind New Zealander, Phil Tataurangi, Coles was going nowhere in round two when he made the turn in even par but a great finishing burst saw him finish with a closing nine of 31 and a round of 66.

Other Australasians are Scott Gardiner and Andrew Buckle in 12th place at 6 under, Paul Gow and Bradley Iles at 1 under with Alistair Presnell and David Mckenzie 56th.
