Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell finished his opening round at the BMW Championship 2005 has moved up to the top of the leaderboard alongside Irishman Peter Lawrie and Jose-Filipe Lima.
"I'm pretty content with my finish," said McDowell after the round. "I'm actually surprised the leading score isn't better."
For a long while, it looked as if no player with an afternoon tee-off time would match Lawrie's earlier 67. But McDowell hit three sensational birdies on the final three holes to climb the leaderboard. Many of the top players initially struggled in the blustery conditions, but all rallied towards the end of their rounds.
Fiur Australians sit in equal second place at -4 including Marcus Fraser, Nick O'Hern, Peter Fowler and Wade Ormsby. The in-form Peter Lonard sits another stroke back after posting a first round of 69.
American Ben Curtis (-4), Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen and David Howell (-2), Ian Poulter and Darren Clarke (-1) will be pleased that the overnight lead score isn't greater.
