Echenique's run continues in Paris

Rafa Echenique followed up his brilliant last burst at the BMW International Open in Munich by grabbing the halfway lead at the French Open at Le Golf National in Paris.

Echenique played his last ten holes in Munich last Sunday in ten under par to get within one of the winner Nick Dougherty and he started this week’s event well with an opening round of 65 yesterday to be three behind German, Martin Kaymer.

Adding a second round of 67, the 28 year old from San Luis in Argentina has now moved two ahead of Martin Kaymer, South African Charl Schwartzel and Englishman Steve Webster.

Echenique’s effort last week also erned him a start at the British Open so life’s good for the emerging champion from what is rapidly becoming the home of major contenders, Argentina.

Richard Green moved into a share of 5th with a second round of 65, he too continuing a good run of form of late. Green was 6th in Wales and last week finished 9th in Germany. He is warming to his task nicely as the British Open looms. Only three form Echenique’s lead he likely fancies his chances this week.

Scott Strange is in 9th position at 5 under and five behind the lead and Marcus Fraser 44th is the only other Australian to make the halfway cut.
