Fans of Tiger Woods and Geoff Ogilvy have come out in force with IMG announcing daily passes to Friday’s second round of the Australian Masters have sold out.
Premium grandstand seating on the 18th hole have also sold out on every day of the tournament.
“Melbourne is the only place fans will see the world’s greatest golfer compete in Australia for some time so I’m not surprised at the unprecedented level of interest,” Premier Brumby said
“Thousands of tickets have been sold to interstate and overseas tourists who will come to Melbourne helping to boost tourism and securing jobs for Victorians.”
“Hotels are already reporting bookings from international visitors seeking to come to Melbourne just to see Tiger Woods which is exactly what our major events aim to achieve.”
Vice President, Director of Golf IMG Australia, David Rollo said that interest in the 2009 event has surpassed expectations.
“Our vision to create an iconic sporting event is now being realised and we are delighted that sporting fans from across Australia and overseas are gathering to see the world’s greatest golfers play at Kingston Heath on the famed Melbourne sandbelt.
“Less than 10% of daily passes for Sunday are still available and given the demand to date we would encourage fans to purchase tickets now to avoid disappointment,” Rollo said.
Daily tickets are still available for Thursday and Saturday along with only 500 season passes providing access to each day of the tournament and practice days.
Travel packages through the official travel agency, Event Travel Office, continue to sell strongly and fans looking to purchase should call 1300 300 756 or visit www.australianmasters.com.au
The 2009 Australian Masters will be held at Kingston Heath Golf Club from 12 – 15 November.
