108 players have already been confirmed as starters for the NSW Open at Horizons Golf Resort, with three weeks still remaining until entries close for the prestigious tournament.
Among the names lining up to play in the November tournament are Australian stars Wayne Grady and Wayne Riley, former ANZ Tour Championship winner Andre Stolz and local star Nathan Green.
Green shot to prominence last year when he landed a $500,000 jackpot at the Ericsson Masters, courtesy of a hole-in-one on the par-three 12th hole. The 27-year old from Valentine will have another incentive on the par 3 15th during the Open event. Sponsors Yamaha Motor Australia, through Terrace Boating, have put a $50,000 Southwind Classic speedboat on the line for the first player to score on ace on the hole on the final day of the event.
Horizons CEO Antonio Gelonesi said the enthusiasm shown by the players was a show of confidence in the future of the event.
“The NSW Open has not been played for seven years, though it boasts many quality players as members of its honour roll. The field is looking really strong and it augurs well for the tournament to be returned to its place among the country’s premier events.”
The NSW Open Championship, which will be held in honour of Australian golfing great Jack Newton, will be staged for the first time at Horizons from November 7 to 10 2002.
