Rain delays at John Deere Classic

BY Bruce Young | US PGA Tour | 2009 John Deere Classic | Round Two | 11 Jul 2009

The John Deere Classic has suffered a one day delay at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ilinois with rain forcing postponement of round two without a shot being fired in anger.

The storm hit just before the first tee times on day two and although hope was held for play to get underway at various times during the day it was eventually called off completely at around 4.00pm.

The tournament will remain as a 72 hole event with round two being played on Saturday and 36 holes now scheduled for Sunday.

First round leaders Lee Janzen and Darron Stiles lead after their opening rounds of 64 by one over Matt Bettencourt, J.J. Henry and Dean Wilson.

The leading Australian is Jason Day, who three years ago played his first event as a professional in this event and made the cut. Day opened with a 5 under par 66. Peter Lonard continued a return to some semblance of the form we know he is capable of with a first round of 67 and has the advantage of an early tee time in round two.

Aaron Baddeley, Matt Jones and Marc Leishman are the next best of the Australian at 3 under 68.
