Trio lead but Webb in touch at Evian

Three players yet to win an LPGA Tour event, Ai Miyazato, Becky Brewerton and Na Yeon Choi lead after 36 holes of the lucrative Evian Masters in Evian les Bains in France, their 9 under total leaving them one ahead of In Kyung Kim.
Miyazato stormed home with a back nine of 32 to be first in the clubhouse at 9 under and it took until the final group of the day for her to be joined in the lead by Brewerton and Choi who were playing together in the final group of day two. Interestingly, three of the leading four players at the halfway mark came from that final group as Kim made up the threesome.
Brewerton comes off a win at the Ladies European Tour’s Spanish Open last week and today took the lead early and at the turn was three ahead. Two late bogeys cost Brewerton the outright lead but she will be delighted with the continuation of her form.
Conversely Miyazato birdied two of her last three holes to move into contention before Brewerton’s late stumble gave her a share of the lead. A prolific winner in Japan prior to joining the LPGA Tour in 2006, Miyazato has been perhaps disappointing to date in the US but she has created a good chance this week.
Na Yeon Choi is in her second season on the LPGA Tour and although she has yet to win she does boast a runner up finish in this event last year and clearly has a comfort zone with the Evian Masters Golf Club’s layout.
In Kyung Kim and has been in magnificent form of late and could well pose the leaders their biggest threat.
The pre tournament favourite Lorena Ochoa improved on day two with a round of 69 but at even par she is nine shots of the pace.
The leading Australian, Karrie Webb, stayed in touch with her second consecutive round of 69 to be at 6 under and just three behind the lead.
Lindsey Wright heads the rest of the Australians in 26th position after an impressive second round of 68 to be at 2 under, Rachel Hetherington is two further back while Katherine Hull at 2 over also made the cut.
