Sim in touch at Cox Classic

BY Bruce Young | Nationwide Tour | 2009 Cox Classic | Round Two | 25 Jul 2009

Michael Sim added a second round of 65 at the Cox Classic in Omaha, Nebraska and is just two behind the 36 hole leaders, JJ Killeen and Jonas Blixt.

Sim, who if he was to win this week would gain immediate access to the PGA Tour and set a money winning record on the Nationwide Tour, produced a withering burst in the middle of his round with seven birdies in eleven holes.

Killeen is in his second season on the Nationwide Tour and although he has yet to win he did lose a playoff to Aron Price in just his sixth Nationwide Tour event last year at the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship.

Blixt is a rookie on the Nationwide Tour in 2009 and has already displayed he has the game to succeed. He finished 4th at the Nationwide Tour Players Cup and earlier in the season was 3rd in Louisiana.  If Blixt was to win this week he would almost certainly gain a PGA Tour in 2010 as there is a first prize of US$130,000 available this week.

Garth Mulroy, who is currently 4th on the Nationwide Tour money list, is well placed just three behind the lead and having finished third in this event last year he might pose those ahead of him at present their biggest threat.

Andrew Buckle and Scott Gardiner are the next best of the Australians after Sim in 25th position at 8 under in the low scoring tournament.
