In what is another disappointing year for Australians at the British Amateur, Marc Leishman has been eliminated in the third round by Walker Cup player Nigel Edwards of Wales, the margin 2 & 1.

Doug Bachli’s win in 1954 is still the only occasion that an Australian has won the British Amateur.

The two time champion 42-year-old Gary Wolstenholme, who just scapped into the match play phase, remains in the field into the round of 16 having beaten the Portugese star Tiago Cruz today 2 & 1.

Neither of the two leading qualifiers remain in the draw with Switzerland’s Damian Ulrich and James Ruth bowing out in the early rounds.
