Rollins wins Reno Tahoe Open

Last year’s runner up at the Legends Reno Tahoe Open, John Rollins, today finally got his name on the trophy at the Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno when he won by three over Jeff Quinney and Martin Laird.
Rollins’ course record equalling round of 62 on Friday established a lead he would never relinquish and although there were times today where it appeared the event might get away on him, a late birdie ensured he would win over the fast finishing Quinney and Laird.
Quinney was out nearly an hour earlier than Rollins in today’s final round and when he posted a round of 66 he was within two of the leader but the Rollins birdie at the par five 17th effectively secured the title.
For Rollins it was his third PGA Tour victory and his first since the BC Open in 2006. He has, however, finished in second place twice earlier this year and an 8th place finish last week, along with his good tournament in this event last year, gave an indication this could be a good week for him.
The best of the Australasians in the field was Rod Pampling, who finished alone in 8th position. Marc Leishman was 47th, Matt Jones was 17th, Steve Elkington 22nd, James Nitties 26th, Grant Waite 53rd and Aron Price 66th.
