Sim at it again in Kansas

BY Bruce Young | Nationwide Tour | 2009 Christmas In October | Round Two | 22 Aug 2009

Michael Sim shares the lead at the completion of 36 holes at the Christmas in October event at the Nicklaus Golf Club in Overland Park in Kansas.

Sim added a second round 67 today and at 10 under he shares the lead alongside Tom Gillis and Paul Claxton. The trio have a one stroke lead over Steve Wheatcroft with a further shot back to Joe Daley.

Sim and Gillis are assured of a return to the PGA Tour in 2010 with both players enjoying an outstanding season. Sim had another good major championship last week at the PGA Championship, making the cut and recording a solid final round of 71.

A win this week for the West Australian would give him immediate access to the PGA Tour courtesy of a Battlefield Promotion although, as was the case when Nick Flanagan achieved a similar feat two years ago, he will not be eligible for any events until after the FedEx Cup Series.

The in-form Scott Gardiner, David McKenzie and Adam Bland are the next best of the Australians sharing 10th place at 5 under and six behind the lead.

Phil Tataurangi is 19th, Steve Alker 27th, while Alistair Presnell, Gavin Coles and Andrew Bonhomme just crept inside the cutline.
