Dyson repeats history at KLM

England’s Simon Dyson further highlighted his love affair with the Kennemer Golf and Country Club in Zandvoort in the Netherlands today by winning the KLM Open for the second time in four years.
Dyson, who defeated Australian Richard Green in a playoff at the same venue in 2006, may have been forgiven for thinking he was dreaming as it was almost a case of history repeating itself today. Just as he had done in 2006 Dyson holed a putt at the first playoff hole although this time it was a little longer (18 feet) than had been the case four years ago and this time it was against two opponents.
Peter Lawrie and Peter Hedblom had tied with Dyson at 15 under before the 31-year-old broke the deadlock in extra time. Dyson’s final round of 63 swept him from an overnight 12th to force the playoff.
It was Dyson’s first victory since the win in 2006 and will improve his current world ranking of 146th considerably.
Terry Pilkadaris was the leading Australian finishing 8th in his best finish of the season and in doing so doubling his European Tour earnings for 2009. Pilkadaris earned €45,000.
Marcus Fraser finished 12th, Wade Ormsby 26th, and Peter O’Malley 57th.
