Sweden’s Peter Hedblom today won the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles just seven days after losing a playoff to Simon Dyson at the KLM Open.
The 39-year-old Hedblom responded to a brilliant final round of 62 by his fellow countryman Martin Erlandsson to win by one with a further two shots back to the defending champion Gregory Havret and early leader Paul Lawrie.
The victory was Hedblom’s first European Tour title on European soil, his previous two victories coming in Malaysia and Morocco.
Another to produce his best result on European soil was the New Zealander Danny Lee. Lee was playing his first European Tour as a professional in Europe and further confirmed his great talent by finishing a very respectable 10th. Lee recovered from an opening double bogey today to record a round of 69
The best of the Australians were the current Australian Amateur champion Scott Arnold and European Tour rookie Michael Curtain who finished 51st, Stephen Leaney was 56th, Wade Ormsby 59th, Marcus Fraser 63rd.
The European Tour now heads to Crans Sur Sierre in Switzerland for the Omega European Masters, an event co sanctioned with the Asian Tour.
