Hur adds to Korean LPGA winners list

There is yet another Korean first time winner on the LPGA Tour, after rookie M.J. Hur, won the Safeway Classic at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club’s Ghost Creek Golf Course in Oregon following a playoff with Suzann Pettersen and Michelle Redman.

Hur holed a short birdie putt at the second extra hole to edge out Pettersen after Redman had been eliminated at the first.

The 19-year-old Hur is playing the LPGA Tour in 2009 courtesy of a great season on the Futures Tour in 2008 where she finished 4th on the 2008 money list. Without a top ten in her 13 starts to date in 2009, however her victory today represented a huge turnaround.

A final round of 65 gave Hur a share of the 13 under 54 hole total and she would go onto to become the seventh Korean winner of an LPGA Tour event this season.

Fourth place was shared by Michelle Wie, Ai Miyazato, Seon Hwa Lee while overnight leader Anna Nordqvist faded to finish 7th.

The leading Australian was Rachel Hetherington, who in finishing 27th recorded her best finish of what to date has been the worst season in her LPGA Tour career. Anna Rawson was 55th and Lindsey Wright struggled on the final day to finish 65th.
