Utah Championship next for Nationwide
BY Bruce Young | Nationwide Tour | 2009 Utah Championship | Round Four | 10 Sep 2009
The Utah Championship is played this week at the Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy, Utah, the venue for the event since its inaugural staging in 1999.
The William Neff designed layout regularly sees a low scoring total with 22 under winning in 2008 and 20 under in 2007.
Defending the title he won by six shots last year is Brendon Todd who as a result of that win graduated to the PGA Tour this season. Todd has missed his last six cuts at the higher level and perhaps a trip back to the Nationwide Tour and a golf course which means so much to him might help his cause.
Another previous winner is Garrett Willis who won in 2005 and who this year has played both on the PGA and Nationwide Tours. His form has been such this season at this level that he stands a realistic chance of adding another victory in Utah to his list of tournament victories which also includes a victory on the PGA Tour.
Leading Australians on the Nationwide Tour this season Michael Sim and Cameron Percy are absent but the Australasian challenge is well represented. Steve Alker, Steve Allan, Adam Bland, Steve Bowditch, Andrew Buckle, Gavin Coles, Scott Gardiner, Brad Iles, Matt Jones, Won Joon Lee, David McKenzie, Ewan Porter, Alistair Presnell, Phil Tataurangi and Grant Waite are all in the field with several more waiting a start from the alternate list.
Jones has played the PGA Tour this season but without starts in the FedEx Cup Finals he is here to have his game in shape for the return to the Fall Series of PGA Tour events in October.
