Ochoa looking for win at CVS

BY Bruce Young | LPGA Tour | 2009 CVS Pharmacy LPGA Challenge | Preview | 22 Sep 2009

The LPGA Tour moves from San Diego to Danville, an hour or so east of San Francisco, for this week’s CVS Pharmacy LPGA Challenge at the Blackhawk Country Club.

The tournament, previously known as the Longs Drugs Challenge, has been played at this Bruce Devlin and Robert Von Hagge designed layout venue since 2006 with Karrie Webb, Suzann Pettersen and In Kyung Kim the winners in that time.

This could be the week for Lorena Ochoa to get back to her winning ways. Ochoa was beaten in a playoff in this event in 2007 and with better finishes in her last two weeks she appears on the verge of a return to winning form.

Pettersen also has form on the golf course and with a run of good tournaments of late including her win at the Canadian Open then she has a good chance of her second title in 2009.

Defending champion, In Kyung Kim, is having a great season in 2009 and although disappointing last week at the Samsung she should bounce back. Kim also played well at Blackhawk in 2007.

Ji Yai Shin did not play in this event last year and so will be playing this venue for the first occasion this year. That has however not stopped her from winning events earlier this season at venues she has also played for the first time. She is such a consistent player she should be in the thick of it again on Sunday.

Karrie Webb leads the Australians into battle this week along with Katherine Hull, Rachel Hetherington, Wendy Doolan, Sarah Kemp, Anna Rawson and Sarah Jane Smith with Michelle Ellis the first alternate and likely to get a start.
