Swede Sophie Gustafson whose brilliant opening round of 65 captured the lead after round one of the CVS Pharmacy retained the lead at the halfway mark of the event in Danville California by adding a second round of 69 to lead by one.
Gustafson has not won this season on the LPGA Tour in fact she has not won in the last six years but in recent weeks she has put together several very good finishes and the chances of her 5th LPGA Tour victory look promising.
Fellow Swede Maria Hjorth shares second position with world number one Lorena Ochoa, who appears on the verge of another LPGA Tour victory after a battle by her standards over the last few months , and Chinese golfer Shanshan Feng.
Katherine Hull bounced back from a slow start to lead the Australians in 17th position, Karrie Webb could only manage a round of 75 after her good start yesterday and is 37th, a position she shares with Sarah Kemp while Wendy Doolan in 60th position was the only other Australian to make the cut.
