With the US Open sectional qualifying now all but complete, fourteen Australians and one New Zealander will line up at next week’s US Open with Steve Elkington, Australia’s last major winner, the last to gain a berth via his effort in Maryland this morning.
He joins Michael Campbell, Geoff Ogilvy, Euan Walters and Steve Allan as the five players to make it through the final qualifying and join the ten other Australians in the field at Pinehurst next week. In addition there are several Australians listed as alternates namely Aron Price, Peter Fowler, Marcus Fraser, Nick Flanagan, Greg Chalmers and Ben Ferguson.
Australasians who did not graduate through Sectional Qualifying this week include: Christian Hills, Phil Luong (NZL), Ben Meyers, Paul Sheehan, Stephen Leaney, Craig Perks (NZL) and Aaron Baddeley, who withdrew after the first round in Ohio. Peter O’Malley and Brett Rumford also missed out on qualifying at their event in Europe whilst today in Maryland John Senden, Steven Bowditch, Brendan Jones, Paul Gow, Brad Hughes, Gavin Coles, Andre Stolz and Grant Waite (NZL) missed out, as did Steven Alker (NZL) in Atlanta.
