Donald's 64 takes lead at Dunhill

With round three of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Fifeshire postponed due to high winds on Saturday, the event now goes into a Monday finish with Englishman Luke Donald a narrow one shot leader over Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and England’s Simon Dyson.
Donald put together an 8 under par round of 64 at the Kingsbarns to the east of St Andrews to snatch the third round lead from joint second round leader, McIlroy while Dyson added a round of 68 at Kingsbarns to be right on the leader’s tail.
Rafael Cabrera-Cabello, Richie Ramsey, Michael Hoey and Darren Clarke are one shot further again, making a trio from Northern Ireland in the first five.
Donald, a two time winner on the PGA Tour, has not won on the European Tour since the Omega European Masters in 2004 and has not won anywhere since the 2006 Honda Classic in Florida. The 31 year old Chicago based Englishman has played solidly in recent months, his form late last year and, at times, earlier in this season disrupted by injury issues.
Brett Rumford and Wade Ormsby lead the Australians in a share of 26th position while Richard Green was the only other to make the cut in 33rd position.
Scott Strange did not make the cut but will get to play the final round courtesy of his amateur partner Steve Waugh’s outstanding performance in the pro-am side of the event. The pair is at 30 under and one shot behind the leading team of Soren Hansen and Kieran McManus. Given that Strange’s individual score was 8 over then Waugh’s performance has been quite sensational.
The leading 20 teams in the pro-am section of the event get to play the final round at St Andrews.
