Song wins, Campbell 10th at Japan Open

Canberra’s Nikki Campbell recovered from a third round of 76 with a final round of 69 to finish in a share of 10th position in the Japan Women’s Golf Open at the Abiko Golf Club in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo today.
22 year old Bo-Bae Song, who hails from South Korea, broke through to win her first JLPGA event after a playoff against 23 year old Sakura Yokomine after Yokomine had come from seven shots of the lead with a final round of 65 to force the issue.
Song has yet to play on the LPGA Tour in the US but clearly has the game to succeed there when she eventually does. She won the Korean Open as a 17 high school student year old in 2003 and then won it again as a KLPGA rookie in 2004.
Song earned ¥28 million or A$360,000 for her victory.
Third place went to the leading world ranked player in the field Ai Miyazato who put together a fine weekend with consecutive rounds of 68 to finish three shot behind the leading pair.
Shinobu Moromizato finished in 4th position and retains her lead on the 2009 JLPGA Tour money list ahead of Yokomine.
Australia’s second player in the event, Tamie Durdin finished in a share of 36th.
