Kuchar outlasts Taylor for second title

BY Bruce Young | US PGA Tour | 2009 Turning Stone Resort Championship | Round Four | 06 Oct 2009

Returning to the Atunyote Golf Club for the fifth day to settle the deadlock at the Turning Stone Resort Championship, Matt Kuchar and Vaughn Taylor may well have felt that the title would be settled very quickly. It would not happen that way.

Having played two holes the previous evening before darkness halted the playoff, the pair returned at 8.30am on Monday with a massive US$432,000 at stake. First prize in the event would be US$1,040,000 and the runner up US$648,000.

The playoff would last four further holes before Taylor’s tee shot found the water at the par four 13th which eventually led to a double bogey allowing Kuchar the luxury of a two putting from three feet for the title. He would make the putt however and Kuchar had secured his second PGA Tour title more than six years after his first at the 2002 Honda Classic in his rookie season.
