Justin Smith leads Lee in Miami

The second last event of the Nationwide Tour season, the Miccosukee Championship in Miami is being led by Monday qualifier Justin Smith, although in order for him to retain that lead he will need to play the final two holes in even par when he returns to complete his round tomorrow.
The second round was brought to a halt by darkness after a weather delay had become necessary mid afternoon as a result of a threatening storm. 15 players will be required to return to the golf course on Saturday morning.
Smith leads Australian Won Joon Lee, who is in desperate need of a big week this week if he is to force his way into next week’s Tour Championship and keep his hopes alive of a PGA Tour card in 2010. Lee and American Josh Broadway share second at 8 under and just one behind Smith.
Lee is currently in 73rd position on the money list and with only the top 60 getting through to next week’s finale he needs to build on this great start.
Amongst a large group sharing 4th just two behind the lead position is New Zealander Bradley Iles who still has two holes to play when he returns to complete his round.
Iles is in 52nd position on the money list and has already assured himself of full Nationwide Tour status in 2010. His goals are now much higher than that however.
Iles is already assured of a start next week in South Carolina and a win this week or even an outright second would, along with the guaranteed money next week, be enough to earn his way to the PGA Tour next year.
Cameron Percy continued his great year to be in 10th position along with first round leader who today recovered from a slow start to keep his hopes alive of moving back inside the top 25 on the money list from his current 28th. Alistair Presnell is also precariously placed in 24th position on the money list but has made a good start this week to be at 5 under and in 15th position.
Gavin Coles is 32nd while money leader Michael Sim shares 48th position with Phil Tataurangi.
