LPGA sees action in Korea

BY Bruce Young | Ladies Korean PGA Tour | 2009 KOLON-Hana Bank Championship | Preview | 28 Oct 2009

After a break of three weeks, the LPGA Tour returns to action this week in Korea when it joins forces with the Korean LPGA Tour to stage the Hana Bank Kolon Championship in Incheon in South Korea.

The tournament is being played at the Ocean Course at the Sky Blue Golf Club in Incheon, only an hour or so from Seoul for which it is the port city. Incheon is the third largest city in South Korea with a population of 2.5 million.

Taiwan’s Candie Kung is the defending champion after a one shot victory over Australia’s then recently crowned Canadian Open champion, Katherine Hull. In 2007, a weather shortened event saw Suzann Pettersen win over Eun Hee Ji in an event reduced to just 36 holes.

Three of the leading four players in the world, Lorena Ochoa, JiYai Shin and Cristie Kerr are in the field although Pettersen is not.

Australians Katherine Hull and Lindsey Wright will also tee it up.
