Ross Fisher has confirmed an already outstanding European Tour season with an impressive victory at the Volvo World Match Play Championship, winning his 36 hole final against American Anthony Kim by a 4&3 margin.

After topping his group in the early round robin series, Fisher just scrapped home one up against Angel Cabrera in the first semi final while in the other Anthony Kim outplayed Robert Allenby to win 5&4.

In the 18 hole consolation Allenby produced some heroics when he holed in one at the 6th, birdied the final hole to draw level and then won at the first extra hole.

Fisher has moved to 17th in the world ranking and 4th on the Race to Dubai ranking. He leaves the door open for a possible Order of Merit title. While it is Fisher’s first win in 16 months, he has built up such a fine list of good finishes in quality tournaments that he has been one of the game’s big improvers in 2010.

The European Tour plays one of the World Golf Championship events this week at the HSBC Champions event in China.
