Bowditch in control at QLD PGA
Australasian PGA Tour | 2009 Queensland PGA | Round Three | 07 Nov 2009
Steven Bowditch cemented his position as tournament favourite with another flawless display during the third round of the 2009 Cellarbrations QLD PGA Championship at City Golf Club, Toowoomba. Consecutive rounds of 64 and a third round of 63 has the burly Queenslander at 19-under par and in a commanding position to break through for victory, the first since the SA Jacob’s Creek Open in 2005.
“I’m pretty happy with how I played today,” said Bowditch following the round. “I drove it really well and had short irons into the greens – that’s the key on this course. I had big expectations to perform well this week and I’m looking forward to getting the job done tomorrow.”
The 26 year-old will take an eight stroke advantage over Adam Blyth, Eddie Barr and Michael Hendry heading into tomorrow’s final round. Hendry, from New Zealand continues his impressive form over the past three weeks finishing third at the WA Open and ninth at the PGA Championship. “Its been great being in contention during the last two weeks” Henry explained.
“I need a few things to go my way if I am going to catch Bowdo. I will have nothing to lose as I need a win to be exempt into next week’s JBWere Australian Masters.”
West Australian Michael Foster matched Bowditch’s 63, equaling the best score of the day to move to nine-under. The final round of the 2009 Cellarbrations QLD PGA Championship will commence at 7.45am at City Golf Club, Toowoomba with the final group teeing off at 11.00am.
