Lorena Ochoa added even further kudos to her growing status in the game with a four shot win at the Wegmans Rochester LPGA event in Pittsford New York.

Ochoa’s powerhouse finish, which included six birdies in the last seven holes, saw her sweep past Paul Creamer and take the US$225,000 first prize.

Through eleven holes today Ochoa trailed rookie and the LPGA Tour School medallist, Creamer, by five but her strong finishing burst and Creamer’s shaky finish in pursuit of her first title saw a nine shot turnaround over the closing seven holes.

This was Ochoa’s first victory of 2005, although there have been many near misses, and will provide a great boost for her as she heads to Colorado for this coming week’s US Women’s Open. She has moved to within US$80,000 of Cristie Kerr on the money list and broken clear of her nearest pursuer, who is the runner up here, Creamer.

Rosie Jones was third with Jeong Jang fourth.

Of the Australians Lindsey Wright was again the best. Wright, who last week finished 16th in her very first major championship, finished 32nd here and she will no doubt be keen to continue her run of good form in Colorado.

Rachel Hetherington was 59th and Katherine Hull 69th.

Next week’s US Womens Open is to be held at the Cherry Hills Country Club near Denver.
