Bo Bae Song withstood a strong late challenge from Lorena Ochoa to today win the Mizuno Open Kintetsu Kashikojima Country Club in Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan.
“I don’t know yet,” said Song, also the 2008 Daikin Orchid winner in Japan when asked about a move to the US to take advantage of her win in the event co-sanctioned with the USLPGA Tour.
“I’ve played in several big tournaments when I lived in Korea, but I felt that Japan suits me more. So I still don’t know yet. I’ve been playing in Japan for three years, and if I were to go to the U.S. tour, it’s all a new start for me.”
It was 22 year old Song’s second win of the season on the Japan ladies Golf Tour where she has played for the past three years
Song ran out the winner by four over Ochoa, Brittany Lang and Hee Young Park.
Lindsey Wright was the best of the Australians in 25th place, Karrie Webb 29th, Tamie Durdin 45th, Katherine Hull 51st and Nikki Campbell 73rd in the event which had not cut.
The win means yet another fine Korean player is likely to join the LPGA Tour. Song would also enjoy event greater status in Japan as this win moves her to 6th position on the money list there.
The LPGA Tour now has a one week break before the LPGA Tour Championship in Houston, Texas.
