Ochoa host and favourite in Mexico

Lorena Ochoa hosts the Lorena Ochoa Invitational this week, an elite 36 player field taking to the fairways of the Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The field boasts the top 31 of the 2009 LPGA Tour money list with Angela Stanford defending the title she won last year by one shot over Annika Sorenstam and Brittany Lang in what was the inaugural staging of the event.
Given Stanford’s current form there is no reason she can’t win again. She did not bother to go to the events in Asia and that may well work in her favour as she will be refreshed and ready to go.
Ochoa has shown an improvement in her form in recent starts after what was for her a mid-year slump but she faces the demands of expectation as host and in front of her home fans.
Ji Yai Shin will surely be in the mix again this week. The leading money winner this season in what is officially her rookie season on the LPGA Tour, Shin took much of October off to recharge her flagging batteries after an intense period of golf and appears refreshed again. She should contend.
I think Na Yeon Choi can continue her great run of form recent weeks. She had a reasonable week in the event last year and seems to be at her peak right now with two wins in recent weeks.
Australians in the field are Karrie Webb, Lindsey Wright and Katherine Hull.
