Ames wins fourth PGA Tour title

BY Bruce Young | US PGA Tour | 2009 Childrens Miracle Network Classic | Round Four | 16 Nov 2009

Stephen Ames has produced a last round of 64 to force a playoff with Justin Leonard and George McNeil at the Children’s Miracle Worker Network Classic in Orlando and go on to win a playoff at the second extra hole.

For Ames it was his fourth PGA Tour victory and comes two years after his last win in this very event in 2007.

McNeil will rue a disastrous finish to his third round where a bogey, double bogey finish cost him the outright lead and although he contended throughout the final round that would prove to be costly.

Nick O’Hern stayed in contention all week after an opening round of 68 but would eventually miss by one. He finished in a tie for fourth with Justin Rose and the US$206,000 took his earning beyond US$1 million for the season despite having seldom been heard from.

Aron Price and Peter Lonard both made the cut but finished 64th and 69th respectively ensuring they will both be required to head to Tour School.

In the race for Tour status in 2009 Jimmy Walker secured the 125th position with a 15th place finish, the money required for that position being a surprising US$662,000 compared to US$852,000 the previous year.
