Kulacz's star rises at European Q School

West Australian Rick Kulacz has earned playing rights for the 2010 European Tour by producing a stunning final round of 64 to finish in 26th position at the Final Stage of qualifying in Girona in Spain.
Kulacz’s round was the best of the day but it needed to be as heading into the 6th and final round he was in 59th position and something special was required if he was to earn one of the 30 cards available at day’s end.
The round improved Kulacz 39 places to tie him in 26th place, right on the required mark for inclusion in the group who will play in Europe in 2010.
24 year old Kulacz, a former Australian and World Junior champion and the winner of the NSW Open as an amateur, has won twice on the Asian Tour in the past two years but he now has full status in both Asia and Europe as his career takes off.
While Kulacz was the good news story as far as the Australian contingent it was a sad day for the remaining nine Australians. All missed out but it was especially agonising for Queensland’s Tony Carolan who failed out by an agonising one shot to get his full European Tour card for the first occasion.
Carolan led after his opening round of 64 but was unable to capitalise.
