Smith, Combes earn LET cards

Western Australian Kristie Smith and Victorian Kate Combes are the two Australians to earn playing rights on the Ladies European Tour via Ladies European Tour final qualifying when the 30 successful graduates were decided.

21 year old Smith, who has played the Futures Tour in the US in 2009, recorded a fourth and final round of 70 at the La Manga Club in Murcia in Spain to finish two shots behind the German amateur Caroline Masson.

Interestingly, Smith’s father Wayne had won the European Tour School qualifying at La Manga in 1986 when he earned his European Tour playing rights before focusing on a career on the Japan Golf Tour

26 year old Combes, an Espirito Santo team member in 2006, also recorded a final round of 70 to finish in a share of 5th position. Combes regains the status she has previously held in Europe.

For both players their first event with their new status will be the Pegasus New Zealand Open near Christchurch in late February.

Stacey Keating, Rebecca Flood and Vicky Thomas, all missed out on full status but will earn a limited category while Stephanie Na missed out on even that by a narrow one shot.
