Orr early leader at Lake Macquarie Am

Victoria’s Elissa Orr is the leader after the first round of the Ladies Lake Macquarie Amateur by two shots over defending champion Julia Boland, Australian Amateur winner Justine Lee and Victoria’s Stacey Keating.

Orr, from the Commonwealth Club on Victoria’s sandbelt shot a two under round of 70 in overcast conditions at the Belmont Golf Club in Newcastle on the NSW mid- North coast.

Another two shots back is Kiwi Emily Perry on 2 over 74 while Bathurst’s 16-year-old Chantal Hodson recorded a solid 3 over 75 start.

Golf Australia squad member Whitney Hillier did not have the first round she was hoping for, firing off an 11 over 83, to sit in 48th position out of the 78 player field.

The Lake Macquarie Amateur is a 72-hole national ranking event with points also going toward the Karrie Webb series.

The tournament concludes on Sunday.
